Woman at DuskBack in Istanbul, I can't help but walk towards the water when it starts to get dark.
Uploaded on Jan 31, 2008 Kiss the WinnerAt some point a fight broke out, and several people stormed the arena, the cops came in, pulled everyone out of the arena, except for the two camels. They kept wrestling with no one to pull them apart. Eventually order was restored and this guy and his camel were declared winners. At least I assume they won because I can think of no other reason to make out with a frothy foamy camel mouth. This guy loves his camel that much.

For almost the entire match, the two camels just sort of push against each other, shoulder to shoulder with their necks intertwined. Occasionally one camel gets his head and neck under the belly of the other camel: you'd think, maybe he's going to flip him over, or the camel is going to kick him in the head. Nope, they just keep pushing at each other, and if they start to get rough or try to bite, two teams of guys with ropes play tug-o-war and pull the camels apart until they play nice. For me, the raucous crowd was the main event.

This is from my second day in Istanbul. I brought about 70 shots of polaroid film with me so that I could give a picture to some of the people I photograph. I've never sucessfully mailed someone a picture after the fact, and I feel bad about that, so I'm excited about this new format. A little more giving back than just thanks.
