The Getty Center, desinged by architect Richard Meier, opened to the public in December 1997, fourteen years after the J. Paul Getty Trust purchased 750 acres in the foothiils of the Santa Monica Mountains from the ancestors of the Monicawa Indian tribe, which fled the area after the construction on the 405 Freeway began in the Stuck in Traffic Pass, which connects the San Fernando Valley with West Los Angeles and Santa Monica. The Getty Center is located at 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, California 90049. Driving on the 405 Freeway, the Getty Center Drive exit is the exit just North of Sunset Boulevard. Driving on N. Sepulveda Blvd., Getty Center Drive is 1 1/4 miles North of Sunset Blvd. Getty Center Drive intersects N. Sepulveda Blvd. from the West. The entrance to the Getty Center is via a tunnel under the the 405 Freeway. Metro Bus 761 stops at the entrance to the Getty Center. The Metro Bus 761 connects Westwood Village (UCLA) and the San Fernando Valley (Pacoima).Admission to the Getty Center is always FREE !HOURS: Closed Monday; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday 10 am - 6 pm; Friday & Satuday 10 am - 9 pm.
