Emu Tawny Port

We bought this port in British Columbia. It was pretty good, but the great part was the very low price.

Expanding on the subject, I'll add that this was not as good as many Aussie tawny's that I like. However, for $9 Canadian, it was hard to beat. What I didn't like was a bit of a bite and less of the smooth, honeyed quality a good tawny can have. I understand that the best ones get that smoothness (oilyness?) from the solera system, but that may only be a story.

Color was quite ruby, which denotes less aging. I would compare it with the Fonseca they sell at Costco for about 50% more money. That is not a favorable comparison for me and my wife. We are finishing up some Costco Fonseca right now to get rid of it. Too young, too much bite, does not linger on the palate.

This went well with cigars on the ship. We just filled our water glasses and hiked down to the cigar bar. The helpful staff even put down cocktail napkins for our water glasses! We just had to remember to take the glasses back to the cabin and not let the staff bus our table!
