#9 Making you feel bad about not going
outside
at first i was going to put a picture of my
mom here because she always nagged us to go
outside instead of playing video games. and
now i realize that i'm the one nagging my
WoW-playing friends that "today is a
perfect day for a motorcycle ride!"
i am my mother :)

#16 gifted children
don't have a kid but i was one of the
gifted. i was in the GTY ("Gifted and
Talented Youth") program at Fircrest in
Vancouver. my mom found out that john nold (a
neighbor and my best friend) was in the
gifted program and insisted that they put me
into it because i "was way smarter than
john!" personally i think john's mom got
him into it because it meant he spent an
extra two hours at school twice a week :)
the OMSI award i mention in the solar
picture was part of that program

jesus which ones, i have 4 parents. plus my
adopted chinese mother from china court, my
german mom, my drag mom, my jewish mom... but
i digress... yeah, sure i hated them at some
points in my teens... reading the story i was
definitely in the "hate them cuz they
were too strict with me" camp... but
thank god all that shit's behind us and we're
friends now ;)

#20 Being an expert on YOUR culture
this one actually cut like a knife.
"One way they can make up for it is
becoming marginally acquainted with foreign
cultures. It is generally acceptable for a
white person to learn a few terms in a
language spoken primary by non-whites (such
as Chinese, Tagalog or Portuguese). They can
then use these phrases to order certain ‘more
authentic’ dishes in restaurants."

do photography workshops count? if so, then

#59 alternative medicine
please especially note the final paragraph,
"Note: it’s weird that there are some
white people who won’t take aspirin, but will
take Ecstasy, Cocaine, Xanax and
Vicodin."
yeah. i've had my pancha karma adjusted in
an ayurvedic sweat lodge while drinking
stinky tea. i've drunk charred earthworm tea,
magic japanese mineral concentrate,
umeshobancha, echinacea, you name it.
but despite that i think that
pharmaceuticals and western medicine are
awesome. if it won't work in a controlled
double-blind test then i just consider it
"entertainment" like i would a call
to the miss cleo psychic hotline.
