Biggest American Flag I Ever Saw
I swear, there is more square footage of cloth on that flag than on the sail. A crowd favorite, as it turns out. Not quite the standing ovation that the Bluenose got but you couldn't really help but cheer it on :)

Boat Launch Road - Falmouth
My brother and I have an in-joke, oft repeated and always laughed at:
"It's uphill. Both ways."
Doesn't matter where you're referring to, or where you're starting from. Nova Scotia is so hilly that anywhere you go is uphill ... both ways.
A few hundred feet from where I live, this is the Falmouth boat launch which provides access to the Piziquid lake on the Windsor/Falmouth line.
I walked there this morning - it's lush dyke-land, full of wild flowers and snails (all over the ground like little slimy jewels) and almost lime-green grass. And yes, it was uphill.
Both ways.
Best larger, it's a weird middle focus jobbie.

The Moth Time Forgot
All night your moth-breath
Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:
A far sea moves in my ear.
Sylvia Plath
It's not such a great photo, although I like the composition. It was a quick grab, car door hanging open, kid saying "Mom! Get back in the car! We have to go!".
What I adore about it is the scale and timeline. The moth, one wing almost torn off, full of holes and knicks and looking jagged, hangs from the same branch where last week's roses wither and die, turning brilliant pink before they go orange and then brown. In the bottom corner another rose, next week's fallen petals ... far off in the blur is next month's rose .... and so it goes. And goes. And goes.
This is a Luna moth.
Another of the same subject (but much better, technically speaking - like, you know, in focus and all) on the blog today. Yes, I went back outside with a 50mm and a solid camera body and got some others.

Lunenburg-Red
I'm partial to Lunenburg. Maybe it's because that's where the Bluenose (and the Bluenose II and possibly the Bluenose III) was built. Maybe it's because the little town is built on a rocky seaside hill and all the houses are painted bright colors. Maybe it's because I love the drive there from my hometown of Windsor - through Chester and Mahone Bay - all along the western shore. Maybe it's because everywhere you look there's a photo waiting to be taken. Maybe ...
I think it might be the color of red that many of the dockside buildings are painted that I love best. Lunenburg-red, I call it and everyone should have *something* painted that color, I think.
Better detail in larger size.

Where The Lupins Grow
I went there tonight to get a few lupin seedlings - they grow in great abundance all over the fields and along the tracks here.
The sun was in decline and the tracks seemed golden.
I stopped the truck and walked toward the western horizon, through the lupins and phlox. I took dozens of photos. When I started back I noticed I'd left the truck in the middle of the road and the door was wide open.
Oops.
Best large. The original has really cool detail. I had a 50/1.4 attached to the canon.
