This is one of my favorites even though I spent most of that night sitting on the curb listening to my engine gurgle and spit (damaged a gasket somewhere in Tennessee), drinking coffee from a paper cup and trying to calculate the number of quarts of oil I would need to get home (turned out to be almost two cases of good old 20W50 and we smoked like a chimney but if you go fast enough...). At some point in the chilly middle of the night it became deserted...

Very cool. I like the way the light falls off so quickly as you move outward from the area under the roof.

Outstanding!
this would have inspired Edward Hopper to turn it into a painting. I wish I was not so speechless and could write more praise.

This is fun. I do like the way the image fades to black around the edges. Were you driving the cat with wheels?
I had to think that anywhere but New Jersey and Oregon, you could still use plastic to buy gas and pump it yourself.
Here in Oregon, we're to stupid to know how to do that right.

I love this. Great moment to capture, the serenity of a place that is usually bustling with noisy cars and people.

With the night so black - pitch black - it looks like the gas station is a well lighted model in a studio. Job well done. Great exposure!

Fueling stations are interesting things. The old ones that have been resurrected for new use make me smile. The new uber stations are kind of scary in a New Topographics kind of way. I like your image and have just joined the utata group thanks to a friend pointing out that I might dig it there. cheers. www.flickr.com/photos/carmon/78058704/

Oh gosh, yah - here's me - ten months later answering questions :)
Yah, I was driving Alice (check the Alice tag although I really don't have any pics of her up here for some reason). Head gasket. We got home. Barely. She's fine now.
But I tell you, we threw oil all the way home - not leaked it, not burned it (well, burned it off the top of the engine), *threw* it. Wild drive.
