Attempt 2 at post processing this photo with the gimp. Let me know which one you like better!

*Gaussian blur and desaturation of background
*Custom curves and levels
*Unsharp mask on edges
*Cropped

I lost the radiance of VER 2 in this version but stayed truer to the original colors, especially in the kimono. I also redid the original layer mask and I think the blurring of the background looks much better at large sizes.

Still I think the skin tone is too dark and a little too green, and the desaturation of the background maybe wasn't a great idea. I think I'll try again sometime to replicate VER 2 but with the new layer mask for the blur. Ahhh... it's as they say, no amount of photoshop (et al) expertise can replace good technique with the camera. A proper F-stop would have saved me LOTS of trouble!
