	dM.nyc™ says: It definitely is a rose. This cab is actually not in service. It's just a private owner on the Upper West Side who keeps it beautifully maintained. I love the whitewall tires. Note the air conditioning unit on the roof, which was a big plus in this car's heyday. According to my dad, my grandfather (quite a character) owned one of these in Brooklyn (also as his private car) in the 1960's and used to drop off my aunts to school in it. They were mortified and made him drop them off two blocks away so they wouldn't be seen arriving in a Checker Cab driven by their eccentric dad. The last time I rode in a real commissioned Checker Cab was about 6 years ago on a date with my future wife. I had bought her a stuffed animal after dinner and the driver had some of his own on the dashboard. His animals chatted with hers. It was magical. Posted 33 months ago. ( permalink )
