Saw your plug on the Flickr Blog. Wonderful set of images. Just curious, these were all strangers? If so, did you keep any information on them or get any stories from them?

I have a much smaller set that I can "Street Portraits of Strangers" that I have been working on since Sept. 05.

I have found it to be a wonderful experience to do a 1-3 minute photoshoot with a stranger on the street. Sometimes the interaction can be pretty meaningful.

In any event, in case you are interested in looking at my set, please see www.flickr.com/photos/stevehall/sets/72057594111896471/.

Again, great work here.

Very touching. Each picture is worth so many words and yet few come to mind. You make strangers look so familiar, as if I have seen them before and might see them again. That's a particularly interesting accomplishment considering where I live.

Bravo.

This set is amazing! I love it! Asking people if I can take their photo is at the top of my list of photographic challenges that I want to overcome. It takes so much courage! I love this! :)

What a great portrait series. Only very few could be thrown out to increase the overall level even more, someone wrote "stellar", I do not know, but most of these are great portraits with a wonderful model interaction, which is the most importrant part of it. The ones I would take out are not bd, they are just not onthe level of some of these.

WOW!

What do you say to get them to agree?

I never have the balls to ask people, mainly because I want to photograph weird looking folk, and I think that they'd know I wanted to photograph them because they're weird... which isn't so nice.

So, any approach tips?

Obviously, a well loved set... I'm just adding my kudos. Not only brilliant photographs, but excellent choices of people and order.

Everyone needs to do this because interesting looking people are everywhere. I'm going to try this today at a Winefest I'm going to.

My best,

I am in awe of this idea and its brilliant execution - how many times have I seen someone I would love to photograph - have that split second interaction and move on - but I just don't know how to - yet if you asked me - I would say 'yes' - so why not? I think you may have given me courage

A set of joy. It makes me want to take pictures of the people I know. If everyone could have a picture of themselves looking as good as these, perhaps we wouldn't worry so much about our appearance.

Superb.

By the way, Did you just say "Can I take your photo?" (I am not going to fault you if this was your question, because I think that "I am going to use the photo and show it to other people" may be implied. But at the same time I would not be able to do this set, even if I had the talent, with that question alone.) or "Can I take your photo and post it to flickr?" (is flickr well known enough) or "Can I take your photo and post it to the web?," or "Can I take your photo and post it to my blog?"

AWEsome! What a great set. I'm so glad I found it!
I think this is possibly the most interesting type of photography there is - random strangers in their everyday garb, or something like. One of these days I'm going to summon the courage to do something like this instead of my usual boring stuff... Thanks for posting these up - they're a pleasure to look at!
