adventures in napping

doggy always has eye boogers. I can't keep up with them anymore, though I do try.
at this very moment it's 8:28 pm. my boyfriend and my dog(cat) are asleep (he woke up just long enough to pose for this portrait).
They've both made a habit of taking little naps on saturday evenings. Me? I can't get into napping, except on rare occasions when the sunlight is particularly warm and the air surrounding me is particularly cool. Maybe there's a way to trace my aversion to naps back to my father when I was growing up... He's a minister, so every sunday after church he'd come home and nap for 2 or 3 hours. That was always frustrating back then, but it makes sense to me now. He's a minister, has to give 2 services each sunday (one early morning, one late morning). And he has to have a fresh sermon ready every preceeding saturday night -- all thought out, with notes and supporting scriptures. He has to be ready for the service and the sermon every time, and it shows when your minister hasn't put his entire soul into these things...
But my father napped every sunday, and every other day that he had services, too. That meant, for instance, that on Christmas day my brother, sister, and I would have to wait until something like 2 or 3 in the afternoon to open presents. By the time I was 10 my mother had made a regular practice of squirreling away money to buy extra, little presents that we could open seruptitiously while dad was napping.
Anyways, I have this odd history with naps. So I don't nap much. Except when the sunlight is warm and the air is cool and it all lines up just right.
So every saturday evening for a half hour, an hour, an hour and a half, matt and doggy nap. It's just me all by myself -- yet everyone is home and so I'm not really by myself.
I enjoy the half hour, or hour, or hour and half I get every saturday -- when everyone is home but I'm all alone.
It's peaceful. My boys are home, but they are quietly resting, with serene expressions on their faces. I'm always there too, and I'm often thinking about why it is that I'm not napping as well. It's a wonderful time each week... Really, honestly, and very simply wonderful.
Anyways, matt just woke up looking bleary-eyed, so this narrative is done for now.
Happy nappy, everyone.

Thanks for the narrative - very cute (and
goes well with the pic). I am always the one
awake too when everyone else is napping. I
love it though.
