Field notebook in which we kept all the details of the excavation. A few times, this fox grabbed it and ran off, but we never lost a notebook.

Insect repellent. This was just before the really effective repellents were develped; this one was fairly ineffective and we had to use large quantities.

This was the second year of our archaeological excavations at Kukak Bay, Alaska, and many of the foxes were becoming very friendly. This one would often watch us for long periods, curled up at the edge of the excavation.
