Wrap-around cover to the Ford Treasury of Favorite Recipes and Eating Places, Volume 2. Ford Motor Company / Simon and Schuster / Western Printing, 1954.
Illustrated by Charles Harper.
Time for another round of Harperian greatness!
I picked up this little beauty at a library discard sale this week for .50¢ The spiral bound cover allowed for easy removal ( and replacement! ) to facilitate flat scanning.
The book itself is contains reprints from Ford Times magazines from 1950 to 1954, including a number by the talented Mr. Harper. Some can be found posted by Uh ... Bob over at the Charles Harper Flickr group...

You're welcome guys. I was pretty pleased to
find it. In fact, I mentioned to a couple of
friends as we entered the sale, "Keep
an eye out for any Ford cookbooks", not
really expecting to find any!

Fortunately, you were likely the only person
at that library discard sale who said,
"Keep an eye out for any Ford
cookbooks" as you entered. . .

Oh, you're lucky, Glen!
For my birthday, I received a copy of the
Golden Biology book ... I was a fan before
but now I'm truly hooked and I must find more

I am! In February I was surfing ebay while
talking with a friend, and I shrieked when I
saw the Bio book hanging at $450, three days
from auction end. I looked the title up on
alibris and found it sells for $1000 retail.
We talked about the absurdity, and, knowing
he's a thrifter/antiquer, I begged him to
keep an eye out for me -- said rather in the
same vein as, "Play the lottery once in
a while, won't you? We might get lucky!"
On my birthday, he presented me with my own
copy ... sure enough, there are so many used
bookstores in his metro area, he was able to
find one (at far below the market price). I had completely
forgotten I'd mentioned it to him -- it was a
great birthday surprise. :-)
I know it's all been seen before, but I'll
have to do a little scanning, soon!

Geez Louise! I had no idea the Biology book
went for anything close to that price! I've
seen the early Ford Times magazines go pretty
cheap on eBay so didn't expect Harper books
and mags to fetch such a high price. I'll
have to double my efforts to stumble across
one in my travels.

I was able to nab Harper's Biology book
several years ago at a librarian booksale
that happens once a year in Atlanta. Price:
$5. I knew what I had and my heart started
beating so much when I first saw it. Couldn't
believe it! And it was in great condition,
too.
My white whale now is the Animal Kingdom
book. Same publisher and author, but seems to
be harder to find.
