Okay; done. I wonder if I'll get people
thinking that I'm trying to wave Christianity
at them with much threatiness. I suppose
that's considerably less likely now that I've
mentioned it in a comment. How Heisenberg.

Yes the guy on the right is definitely the
scarier of the two! I expect laser beams to
shoot out of his eyes at any moment.

I also find the fella on the left amazingly,
creepily blank.
Oh, there are some comments aimed at this
photo on my newest 365.

These young men look like clean cut, American
nice guys. These guys look like they would
give you the shirt off their backs (no pun
intended). They were nice enough to pose for
the picture and am sure they would help old
ladies cross the street, buy Girl Scout
Cookies and mow your lawn if you were on
vaction.

I bet they would, but I'm not so certain how
nice they'd be if the person asking for the
shirt was gay, or transgendered, or Muslim,
or atheist.
Clean cut American nice guys have been
responsible for plenty of horrors; if you
don't sense the threatiness, it's likely
because you've never had clean cut American
nice guys decide that they need to reinforce
their masculinity by bonding over some
violence targeted at a member of an outgroup,
and have that outgroup include you.
Of course, none of this means that the two
fellows there are anything other than
righteous, nonviolent folks who only want to
help old ladies cross the street, etc. But
you have no more way of knowing that than I
do.

I have certainly found that clean cut guys
are often the meanest. Bald neo-Nazis,
perhaps? Jocks in high school? etc

Yep. All about context.
Perceived angels by one group are perceived
monsters by another.

Maybe he sees the lord coming down in glory.

I'm an Iowa native (Des Moines, specifically)
and this is an example of what I've dubbed,
"blond Iowa" -- and an Iowan would
know what I mean: think of when you go
through towns like Pella, Orange City, Elk
Horn, etc., and see the tall, blond,
affirmatively Christian people who look like
they've jumped out of a Leni Riefenstahl film
because their family hasn't mated outside of
a ten-mile radius since they settled in the
late 1800s. I'm not putting them down, I have
family in "blond Iowa" towns -- I
just feel like I'm in the twilight zone when
I'm in a blond Iowa crowd sometimes
(especially now that I live in Chicago).
