I work for the company that commissioned the
Trolley -- this poster is effin hilarious.
I'm tempted to send it anonymously to the SLU
design team...

Ha! I like that a lot.
While that area is a war zone, I never know
where my bus stop will be from one day to the
next. On several occasions the ad hoc stops
were so poorly marked that my bus just drove
right by me.
Fun!
Recently, while waiting for said bus, a
disgruntled business owner and came out and
vented to me about her S.L.U.T.-related woes.
According to her, the owner of every building
that the trolley will pass is expected to
fork over tens of thousands of dollars for
it, regardless of whether or not they wanted
it or even had anything to do with its
presence in that neighbourhood.
She also ranted about how Westlake Ave. was
originally turned into a one-way street quite
a few years ago because the area was
completely choked by traffic when it was a
two-way street. It'll be interesting to see
how it does as a two-way street again, only
this time with hordes of condominium
residents adding to the mix.
Whee!
Needless to say, people are not happy over
there for myriad understandable reasons.

Hahaha, this picture is hilarious.
I live in Eastlake and commute downtown by
bus every day and the construction has caused
me nothing but problems. I especially enjoy
that the S.L.U.T. starts too far south on
fairview and ends too far north in downtown
to be useful to me for commuting at all.
Useless!
It's even more frustrating knowing that
there was an electric streetcar running from
the u-district, through eastlake and South
Lake Union to Downtown which was REMOVED in
1941.
Seattle's transit situation sucks!
FYI - this picture was featured on
reddit.com today but they linked directly to
the flickr static image rather then this
page.

There are actually plans afoot to eventually
extend the trolley all the way to the
U-District. It's easy to roll one's eyes at
it now that everything's torn up, but I
suspect that, if it's not mismanaged, it'll
turn into a useful little choo-choo.

It's not just a poster it's an ad for a
t-shirt being sold at Kapow! Coffee, an
oldschool coffeeshop in the Cascade
Neighborhood. So go get your shirt!! I
can't believe that the city or Vulcan haven't
either shot these people or hired them as
their ad execs! As for us longtime residents
of what they now call SLU but what has been
known as the Cascade neighborhood for the
last 100 YEARS! We just love our new trolley
given to us from Paul and Pickels! For all
you newcomers here is the honest to god true
backstory as seen firsthand from those of us
in the Cascade neighborhood. Thank Goodness
for the people at Kapow! brave enough to tell
the F@#in truth about the Trolley!
As legend has it, when the locals powers
that be began their extensive and
overwhelming redevelopment of the Cascade
neighborhood in Seattle, they decided to
rename the 100 year old neighborhood South
Lake Union. One of the major projects slated
for the area was the S.L.U.T., the South Lake
Union Trolley. However, once the powers that
be realized the unfortunate and embarrassing
acronym this created they quickly scrapped
the trolley label opting to call the new
train a "streetcar". However the
long time denizens of the Cascade
neighborhood took a liking to the original
name and decided to keep it. Thus this
somewhat silly yet endearing story of wealth
and power gone slightly awry is commemorated
in these limited edition South Lake Union
Trolley T-shirts.
This is the truth as anybody who has lived
or worked in the Cascade knows and the city
has been backtracking on their dumb mistake
for years. For the last few years it was the
SLU "streetcar" now they are
calling it the "Seattle
streetcar"?!! But we all love our new
S.L.U.T. Notice how the poster could say F@!k
the S.L.U.T but it doesn't because nobody I
know is grumbing or upset at all! We love the
S.L.U.T. We really want Get behind the
S.L.U.T. We want everybody to Come on the
S.L.U.T!!

Wearing a S.L.U.T. shirt while bitching about
it also has huge philosophical meaning :)
BTW we have a new tram being built here in
Paris,France, around the city (causing lots
of trouble) but as it will replace existing
buses, all in all it's a great improvement.
Another great French city, Lyon, is literally
webbed with trolley buses, making it
absolutely AWFUL. Just imagine, wires all
over all the main streets. Disgusting.
Oh and hey, your shot made it to Explore :)

Yeah, wiping out on trolley tracks is no fun.
I did a number of times back in New Orleans
when I was riding my bike to and from work.

I used to ride my bike into the Cascade but
now that the S.L.U.T. is coming, no pun
intended, I'm leaving it at home and riding
the S.L.U.T. all day long!

I love idea of a SLUT coming to the front
door of my work and taking me to lunch
downtown! I can't wait to ride her, and
maybe by the time I'm 50, I can ride that
b!tch all the way home, too!!

Oh, Indeed!
I think about just how useful this
trollyallup (a trolly that meets a trollop)
truly is as I sit on Mercer every morning
spewing burnt hydrocarbons into the sky
because I work down south and can't get there
by public transport.
