For some odd reason, the room at my hotel only has steaming hot water. In the toilets, in the shower and in the sink. I called engineering who came up and said "huh." and flushed the toilets and ran the shower a bunch and declared the problem fixed. He said the faucet in the bathroom needed a new switch. If I left the lid down on the toilet, it would fill with condensation from the steam.

Ice machine time.

The Sheraton also had only warm or hot water. At least it wasn't steaming, though!

I heard Jessamyn's story, which is truly bizzarre. However, "warm" water is standard in warm climes. I lived in Tucson for 7.5 years, and in the summer the coldest the water ever got was tepid. Think about it. In places like New Orleans, the water pipes are not very deep in the ground (you get water there, in Tucson you hit caliche). Therefore when the ground is warm, it warms the pipes and the water. Unlike in the north (Vermont, Connecticut) where the pipes are more than a foot underground where it is cool even in the summer.

In the Hilton Riverside, I always took the first water out of the cold tap--it had been traveling through the air conditioned spaces, and was therefore the coolest. The longer the tap ran, the closer to tepid it would get.
