My Dad with some superprecise clock

This is before he was my dad.
He had a job with the
Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory after college where he, among other things, travelled around the world with a precise clock (which he helped
design ) to set the times in their various satellite observatories before there was a way to easily do it via other mechanisms. He has some pictures from when he was there in
his own photostream .

Actually, in the second link it explains how
he was "thrown in prison [in Columbia]
for a brief time because his clocks looked to
the authorities like secret weapons."

The funny thing is, I had always thought this
photo was of "dad with an atomic
clock" but it totally isn't. I noticed
it when I saw the blown up version of this
photo. I was surprised. I emailed my dad to
ask about it. He says
