In China, in the 1590s, during the Ming Dynasty Wú Chéng'ēn wrote and published Journey to the West, the story of a buddhist pilgrimage. In the 1970s in Japan it became a childrens' action TV show. In the 1980s it was dubbed into English and shown on Australian TV. In the early 2000s I bought this tshirt, depicting the lead character in Camden Market in London.
