cute! T can cut my hair anytime!
Tallulah decided to send several of her Barbies to her very own hair salon.
Each one was stripped naked, had her hair washed in the WC sink
(with a choice of either Cranberry or Orange shampoo) and then moved
over to the Salle de Bain, where they were draped with a washcloth -
and a blanket if they got cold (and no wonder, at least half of them were!) -
and their hair was chopped, er, styled to each Barbie's individual "request".
I know I often question, if not privately admonish, her fascination with Barbie
(who found her way into our household thanks to a prank by Sally Mann, and
then her generous Uncle and cousins, among other kind folks)...but I can't help
but feel like this was perhaps a rather admirable way for her to express her need
to come to terms with her pixie haircut in her world of chin length bobs, long
ponytails, and of course, all of Disney's princesses' flowing locks. Then again,
maybe she just got bored cutting construction paper and discarded art magazines.
For sure this does NOT mean, despite anything I've ever written about wanting a hairdresser in the family, that I will let this child anywhere near my *own* head with scissors in the near future.
That said, all of the Barbies seemed to go away happy with a bonbon and a prize,
if not all their original clothing. One can only wonder if after a smile and a hefty tip,
they felt the need to trim up a few ends when they got back to their Barbie mirrors,
cursing to themselves in private. Or, if they are happily coming to terms with their
own newfound unique-ness. So to speak...

she did a fabulous job on all of them. the
undressing is a mystery, but the candy and
stuff is a grand idea. we all like a lil'
primpin' n pamperin' now and then and when
we tire of ourselves it's nice to have a
doll, or two or three... to turn to. i love
this.

too cute!
does she first massage their scalps? had my
first professional cut - in ages, at an aveda
salon - and the gal massaged my head. i had
to resist asking her to STOP and just get on
with it...!
i liked to hold my sis's faux barbie's head
to a lit bulb :-D
i was a naughty sister and disliked barbie -
but liked one doll they did have - she had
normal breasts - not missle shaped.
(i need to stop one handed typing...looks
like i am drunk!)

there is some kind of barbie haircut ritual
rite of passage thing. My barbies did not
fare so well as these ladies - they look
fabulous!

maddie just began to cut her barbies
too...and I think Toler's soon to join as
he's more fascinated with them than she is.
It may be odd, but doesn't it make you feel
better about the whole barbie thing when they
can take scissors to them and
"individualize" them somehow? You
are a genius when it comes to barbie clothes
and halloween costumes!

I remember doing that. But also feeling sad
when the hair didn't grow back! So to this
day I have a hard time committing to things.
