Unreal: it gets sunny? It only rained when I
was in Shanghai. The city looks so different.
Where was this taken?

I wish I could put my finger on what's so
alien about this cityscape. It's more than
just the knob on the top of the building on
the left, though that's part of it. Some of
it is the green tint added by the window
glass, I think.

@kylejones: I asked myself the same question,
everytime I came back here...
A few thoughts:
- before you focus in on any one thing, the
scene itself is quite familiar. Every alien
city scene in every scifi movie we've prolly
seen looks like this, from BladeRunner to
Star Wars. In terms of composition it's a
classic, if not cliché shot
("cliché" is of course french for
"snapshot")
- yeah the green tint... i think
"green smog! failed future!"
- the city extends to the horizon. for
someone who lives in places like Shanghai and
Tokyo, this is a common view but I can't
think of any North American or European
cities spread out like this with towers as
far as the eye can see. only in movies about
the "future"
- the clouds look airbrushed in. Scifi
special effect feel, totally.
I love this shot. It's evidence of Gibson's
"The future is here, it just isn't
evenly distributed." :)

@bopuc: Yes, the horizon! Watching the
athletics world championships this week, I
pointed out to my wife how Osaka just seems
to keep going forever in the aerial views.
I'd never seen that before or thought I
hadn't until you pointed it out in this
scene. Seattle certainly isn't like this.
