On the morning of day two of this trip we started out driving north but when we saw that the mountaintops were shrouded in clouds we made an abrupt turn and headed east with visions of moody monochrome mist in our minds. Somewhere above 10,000 feet elevation we met a friendly couple hiking with their dog. The woman was a semi-retired biologist who specialized in the study of carnivorous mammals. We photographed the clouds rolling through the meadow while enjoying an informative discussion about the local wildlife. At first they offered us their apologies for the sullen weather on the mountain but we were quick to inform them that we actually went out of our way specifically to photograph in these conditions. They seemed a bit skeptical at first but I showed them an image on the camera's LCD screen and they caught on to what we were up to.
