OK Flickrites, do you think you can see
Wisconson from Glen Arbor? This is the view
from Alligator Hill, near Glen Arbor with the
Sleeping Bear in the foreground. FYI South
Fox Island is 37 Miles from Alligator Hill
and it was clearly visible.

If i remember right my Royce's Sailing
Illustrated said you could see 30 miles b4
the curve of the earth blocked the view. That
was based on being 6' off the deck. If
Alligator hill is as high as I think it might
be. You have a winner!

It's Washington Island. I have seen it from
South Manitou. I would guess that with the
height of Alligator Hill, it's likely you
can.

According to the visibility chart in the USCG
Light List the distance a 123 ft object (Wash
Island) can be seen from a 429 ft height
(Alligator Hill) is 38.1 NM. It's 44.2 NM
from Alligator Hill to Wash Island. So in
theory: No. But in practice?

Someone over at the Leelanau Blog posted:My first guess was Washington Island, but I'm
leaning more towards the northern end of Door
County. The bluffs along the northwest shore
of the county rise 100+ feet higher than
Washington Island. Just speculation though.
It's been ages since I've been to the dunes,
so I don't have a good feel for the angle of
the photo in relation to Sleeping Bear Point.
