John Blackburn's first novel 'A Scent of New-Mown Hay' written in 1958. I've read this - insomniac indeed - the style is John Wyndham meets Edgar Wallace.

(Penguin 1961 and NEL 1968 editions)

The later cover refers to a BBC radio series.

The green Penguin cover is oddly effective - I want to read the book now - preferably in the penguin addition. I know, I shouldn't judge etc. etc.

Actually I have given that edition to someone. You can have the NEL edition but it has a tiny typeface.
