this isn't a particularly compelling shot, but it does allow for a small anecdote: on Monday (and many other days, but especially Monday) an incredible number of Thai people wear yellow for the King (who, apparently) was born on a Monday. While the original shirt (a yellow polo-neck) was available only from the Grand Palace grounds, the demand so outstripped the supply that stand were set up and now you can buy one on most streetcorners. Some fashionistas have even expanded the yellow theme to pretty tops, snappy ties and entire silk suits. Still, it's pretty eye-popping to see the majority of people on the street wearing such a sunny colour - and it speaks to the devotion of the Thai people to their king.
