The fire hydrant is killing me - never seen
one like that, before.
The pink sweater on the dog is killing me,
too - seems a bit cheery...
Once again, great shot, man...

it is a stand pipe. they are all over lower
manhattan.
the fire dept pumps water from a hydrant
thru a pumper truck to them to activate the
hoses or the sprinkler system in the
building.
nice subtle colors and good composition.

only blonde cockers have the confidence to
wear a sweater like that! somehow the dog
doesn't match the owner..cockers belong with
older women (like me).... she should have
some really hip dog on the end of that leash
with a sweater to match her stockings.

So many cool things to look at! It really
sums up a colourful Greenwich Village street
scene!

Grrrreat shot - I love the combination of
goth, and jovially dressed dog and (also
jovially dressed) standpipe. Beautifully
spotted!
Goths are great lens fodder, they've got
such an interesting look. However, I reckon
this girl is still in training. Years ago
when I was a goth, it would have been a crime
to be seen with a splash of colour. Maybe UK
goths are stricter :)

I think she's stealing that dog, no way would
she have put that festive sweater on her own
dog. Maybe she has a plan to incorporate the
dog into some kind of Goth ritual.
Great picture Lou.

Are you sure that this city still got its
marbles? Worm-like hydrants with faces, dogs
in sweaters, quirky people in quirky poses...
amazing.

Stan-the-Stand-Pipe spends most of his days
napping. He rouses from shut-eye only when
canines approach, figuring if he gives them
his big googly eyes, they might not lift a
leg on him.

So many fun things to see here - dog,
sweater, boots, tights, purse, leash,
hydrant, cup, manikin, window decorations,
pillar, doors, reflection of man walking - I
LOVE it! "Circle the cup, Marcus."

Thanks for the wonderful comments, everyone!
And thanks, endofalltime, for the great
invivte!
She never noticed me, even when I went in
even closer for some detail shots (which I
discarded in favor of this one). But
speaking of close range, you've got quite a
few yourself. ;) It's a thrill, that's for
sure!
