the very-brightly-lit part of the city is Pier 38, where the KaBoom party takes place all afternoon, & then they shoot fireworks off of a barge just offshore once it gets dark

there was a Giants game the same day, the stadium being right next door to Pier 38, so traffic must have been a nightmare -- much better to stay out on the bay!
