While in Argentina, we put together this guy based on one of Enzo's drawings. Almost everyone that has seen him since has mentioned his missing ears. So, after
playing around, and doing some research about the
three wise monkeys, we've found him a name and learned the following:
1. The order of the monkeys was originally "
hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil."
2. There is a
fourth monkey, 'do no evil', which is a recent invention.
3. The Japanese name for the 'hear no evil' monkey is Kikazaru, although the phrase probably originated in Indian and made its way to Japan through China.
We've also created a series of three monkeys. Mizaru and Iwazaru will be posted in the coming days. For now, see a close-up of Kikazaru's
here.
Update: Here's some links to
Mizaru,
Iwazaru, and
a group portrait.
