This picture got me in trouble at La Guardia. As I was taking it, security came over to ask me "are you authorized to take pictures here"? Who knew that the baggage claim was restricted information?
On the up side, I picked up my
girlfriend , who'd been gone for a month.

+ love the depth of field and the framing
- Maybe you should have shot it from the
other side of the poles to get the circular
baggae claims

I wanted that shot, but there was all kinds
of clutter in the way. I probably would have
taken it afterwards anyway, but I was
compromising national security :)
Thanks for the input.

+ like the empty space, captures the sort of
lonely feeling of airports
- needs some space to the right of pole

+Nice subject. I like the lights too...Feels
kind of spooky
-I agree that it would look better if the 1
was to the left a bit.

Great shot. I would have done the same
thing.. They stopped me the other day at a
department store from shooting. I like the
elements, the title & how it relates to
the numbers. Maybe call it 1223 & 3

Horst: thanks. I thought about titling it
1028233 (look closely :), but thought that
the simpler 123 was slightly nicer.
They stopped you at a department store?
Garbage - just tell 'em the manager has you
shooting for an ad.

The answer is "yes" you are
authorized and so is everyone else.
A business (Macy's, for example) is allowed
to restrict photography for commercial
reasons if they choose. It's good to know
your rights.

JR, I don't think that I was authorized to
take pictures in the airport. I would wager
that there is a "specific legal
prohibition such as a statute or
ordinance" against photography in an
airport - especially given our post-9/11
paranoia.
Even if there's not, "property owners
may legally prohibit photography on their
premises", and I think we can be fairly
sure that LaGuardia has done so.
Thanks for the link though.
