Lord Odonata Blue

Master of the Blue Lord Odonata watches over his realm.
This photograph is an example of some simple photographic guidelines I've attempted to follow.
The Main Subject, the dragonfly, is a silhouette, and at it's largest size shows great detail of the wings (someone could probably id this dragonfly from these details). Why a silhouette? The angle of view and the early morning overcast sky (Lighting) behind me forced me to go with the flow of the lighting available.
The Angle of the View. Dragonflies love to come back to their same perches time and again. Since this particular perch was taller than myself I slid as far underneath the subject to give the perception of power and dominance.
Balance and Imbalance. Sometimes I believe there is a need for symmetry in a photograph or work of art. I attempt to follow the "rule of thirds" here. The image is divided into thirds from top to bottom and side to side. The subject is normally placed at the intersection of the imaginary grid. The dragonfly is located one third down from the top and one third in from the right side. This is not a hard and fast "rule", however painters have used it for centuries to bring emphasis to their subject.
Colors. Setting the mood with colors. The angle of view allowed me to use the sky's color as a background for the subject. Blue is a soothing color. The blue background also allows for the wings to be seen in greater detail.
Hope You've just been Soothed by Lord Odonata's Blues.

It's a beautiful shot. Simple, well thought,
well executed. I agree with those who state
that less is more. This photo proves it.

LOL. Many would call my photography
minimal at best. LOL. I usually prescribe
to the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid.
