Great creative use of what you have. You
might check into freecycle.org for yarn.

my mother used to do that when I was a kid.
the other kids would laugh, of course, but I
always thought it was a brilliant idea. And I
knew it was done for novelty, not lack of
yarn :-)

Heh, thanks folks
enno--that's great :) Did they hold up
outside very well? It got *cold* again all
of a sudden, so I haven't been able to try
them out on pavement. And yes yes, I didn't
*reeeally* make them because I'm too cheap
for yarn, I had just started learning on the
bags.. I originally began a couple of totes,
but when I saw how firm and tough the
material was I thought it would be fun to
translate into sandals!

Creativity is certainly at work here. I would
buy a size 10 men's. I once saw a woman
wearing a vest woven out of can lids in the
70's. Sell them on E-Bay!

When my girlfriend and I were in West Africa,
the women did this too. They have a lot of
used plastic bags there. With no organized
trash collection, people just throw plastic
bags on the ground. That's one of the cool
things actually, the women go out
"harvesting" the baggie crop from
trees and bushes - then they make things like
this bitchin purse my girlfriend brought
back:

Have a look in my photoset
