Great shot - they're so cheeky - great to see
a photo of one up high like that in its
mountain environment.
A friend I know who works for DoC told me
that they can unscrew the pins out of stoat
traps and will then bombard them with stones
to spring the moustraps inside before tucking
into the egg they're baited with.
Smart Birds :>
Great photo :-)

Thanks tobybear. That's quite a story. I
believe it.
I've a friend who recounts watching a kea
methodically unscrew the caps of each tyre of
a car, deflating each in turn. The bird
apparently got a kick out of the hissing jet
of air.
They're clever birds all right.
