Gales Brewery 1847 – 2006.

Founded by Richard Gale in 1847, Gales have been brewing from their brewery in Horndean, Hampshire for 159 years. This all came to an end today when the Brewery closed down having been bought out by Fullers for 82 million pounds.

Gales have provided many of the pubs in the area with a selection of their ales for a very long time and many of these pubs (over 100) were owed by Gales; part of the reason for the takeover…

Fullers whose "flagship" beer is London Pride will certainly keep brewing HSB, Gales' flagship beer. The other beers will almost certainly disappear.

Trafalgar Ale 4.2%
Happy Hog 4.4%
Frolic Bitter 4.4%
Hampshire Glory 4.3%
Summer Hog 3.8%
Hogy Bear 4.5%
Christmas Ale 5%

Regular ales:

Butser Bitter 3.4%
GB (Gales Best) 4%
Winter Brew 4.2%
HSB 4.8%
Festival Mild 4.8%

All will be sadly missed.

It's probably a universal, though, that a takeover equates to more money for someone who already has too much and a simultaneous decrease in product quality... The reflection in the window ...
