Downtown Seattle MAY 1, 2006. An estimated 65,000* people marched downtown today -- the demonstrators are demanding changes in immigration laws that would create a clear path to citizenship for many of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living here, speeding up the process by which immigrant families can join their relatives here and establish work place protections for all immigrants –– regardless of their status. About this image: When I saw her, this little girl who had probably at this point been walking for miles -- something about this image sort of pinged in me -- it was not just the shot I'd been waiting for, but sort of a moment of epiphany for me. This one was obviously taken a few moments after the one previously posted -- I was kind of torn between this one and the other and decided to post both.

Great image and better yet I'm very excited
to hear of your 'epiphany'. That is awesome
Myla. There probably is nothing much better
than a heart that pings.

I just looked at the whole set, Myla. It's
amazing. I have a lump in my throat for so
many reasons. Truly, an amazing piece of

This is such an immensely powerful
photography. Were this on the cover of Time
or any national publication, and not tucked
away somewhere on the Internet, this would
surely be one of the generation-defining
photos that just says it all.

the look on her face says it all, and this is
a great shot. i really hope things worked out
well for this little girl, and i hope that
America (and Australia too btw, where we have
detention centres for illegal immigrants)
starts to better treat people who genuinely
need a safe place to make home.
