I like it, but it's also kinda weird since
the face is distorted. You can make out the
ear clearly, but I want to see the features
of the face a little more.
Though with all that being said, I still
think it is pretty cool.
I finally developed some of my pinholes
inspired by you. Uploading over the next
couple of days.

I think with pinhole/long exposure portraits,
I still want to see some vestige of a face,
to give me something to work with, however
disturbing that might be. This has stepped a
little too far over that edge. For me...

communion is a perfect title. i love that
there is just an eye and ear visible and that
the figure dissolves into the background and
looks mute. Make me think about how it's
necessary at times to just look and listen,
trust your senses, and let the surrounding
world envelop you. We should not always try
to explain things but let them speak for
themselves. so i'll shut up now and just let
this image speak for itself which it does
nicely.

I liked this immediately. It made me think
of the idea that everything is connected,
matter vs. energy...objects being pockets of
reality where the energy is more dense.
Which makes your title perfect! He's just
becoming less dense, becoming "one with
the universe".
Not to project a sinister aspect on the
kind of scientific/buddhist feel I get from
this picture, but how disturbing is it to
think of just spontaneously dissolving into
the air? Communion sounds like a lovely
idea, but I see fear, confusion and panic in
this guy's eye. He's powerless even to cry
out because his mouth is already gone. Is
the vibration you see in the figure part of
the process, or is it his body's futile
struggle not to disappear? Me likey!
(I think I just took a whole paragraph to
say what Rita said in one sentence...)

Nikolai I see you are still Flickering, I
feel you should be packing because I think
you are going to New Zealand, No?
Seriously though: I like this because it
evokes a mood more than give information. I
probably would work better in a series than
alone. the title doesnt really do it for me.
I think its the kind of image that everyone
has to figure out for him/herself

Maybe that we don't really see the guy, but I
guess him...
Even if the face is not clear, I feel
something with that kind of move, as I feel
the trees that I don't really see..
Well, I like it VERY much!! :-)

It's less obviously spectacular than your
cross-processed portraits of Jess and Dune
but it's very interesting. It looks like
remains of a moment and the contrast between
lovely colors and being dissolved alived is
strong.

Wow, thanks for the excellent feedback! I've
been looking at this and another one that's similar but has more
visible face (edit: just uploaded) for about two months
and have gone through seeing them exactly as
each of you have described at various points,
which makes it very hard to nail down. At
times I think it's good and see it as Seenya
Rita and Sweet Freak do—IF I look at it
in the right way—and at others, it
falls flat, as it does for Matt Blackcustard
and Pouchkinette. I feel like the door's open
a crack but I can't always get in.
susafri, yes, I have to get back to packing! And I
think you're right, it probably does work
better in the context of a series than on its
own.
Thank you all for taking the time, this
kind of feedback is really instructive and
valuable and I sincerely appreciate it.

Nic, as I've delightedly stated before, your
work sets you apart from the rest that is for
sure...and your interest and desires to
strive for something so great and beyond with
pinhole is super cool. You definitely made a
name for yourself and what can be identified
as being yours and yours only. Each time I
flip through the contact thumbs, I can easily
pick yours out knowing your great style of
photography. Your work certainly reflects
your awesome personality and it's a pleasure
seeing what you are able to come up with
next. You're a nut, but a really kind and
creative one. Thanks for sharing your
work...truly unique and inspiring. Now on to
that bag...ahem.

For me this one might suffer from expectation
syndrome. I guess I'm used to being knocked
on my ass by your stuff and, although this is
an interesting, well done, image, it doesn't
hit me as hard. The other one is firing on
all cylinders.

well, and now that I'm looking more closely
at this one, I might be changing my mind...
the lack of a face is challenging, but
somehow it seems dreamier, like the trees are
thoughts in the person's mind, almost? I
feel like I'm stumbling for words, but both
versions are interesting...

let me add that *I* would fall flat on my

For me, this one does do it &
astoundingly so... (not so much the other
one). Interesting that you should call it
communion because for me, although raised a
catholic, I connect spiritually only when in
nature - so what you've done here with the
person melding with the trees is a perfect
visual representation of the way I feel when
I seek communion in nature.
