reason. Very cool!

Lovely job, n. You've pulled out the essence
of a busy scene and added emotion to it.
Great title, too.

aren't toy cameras and film the new medium,
not digital? I keep telling my digitally
blinkered friends this... lol. I love digital
too but... film rocks, toy cameras rock,
square rocks. Come to think of it, film is
going to be the next big thing (again) isn't
it, and you are an artist of the medium.
Bravo, Nic!

i really love the look of that; the lines of
grain are visible even in the thumbnail; and
i love that tone.
looks like this is from the same roll as a
prior shot.
makes me wonder what this effect would look
like with a more traditional subject. i'd
love it for landscapes...
yes: are you in NZ?

printed on fabric?

Rita, no fabric, it's a combo of
underexposure and cross processing. This is
one of those B&W films that's meant to go
through color chemistry but I did it at home
with normal B&W developer instead.

Wow! This is gorgeous! I didn't even notice
that depraved little cart hiding there at
first!
Nic, do you keep track of the various
chemistry/film combos you try? (not to
mention when you use heat damaged film, old
film, etc)

I don't have a formal chart outside of my
head, but I do note the developer used on my
my film holder sheets and proof scan folders.
I should probably start, though!

So there's something inside your head
then...? Do you have any expectation as you
shoot/develop how something will come out,
and does it ever match in the outcome?
PS: How is Mr. Briggs these days? He
hasn't been posting but I got a mystifying
e-mail from him a while back. (intended for
someone else I assumed, but curious
nonetheless)

Sweet Freak, yeah, I try to make the best decision I can
about camera, film, and processing
combinations out of what I have with me for
what I'm shooting. Sometimes I know (or think
I know) what's going to happen, sometimes I
have no idea. If it's something I've done
before, it generally comes out the way I
think it will, but sometimes there are some
real surprises.
palmea, cool! I've know about his Web site but didn't know the book was out yet. While
he's more focussed on categorizing them,
there's some really kick-ass photography in
there, too.

Yea, I'm feelin on that...once I used to just
toss those negs aside, but once you do one,
you're fucking hooked. If I could do all my
work like this, I'd be happy. Man, you don't
need PS at ALL when you can do it from your
own camera...but of course, with its
assitance, you need to make adjustments, etc.
minus the bells and whistles. Kick ass
dude...

it is quite amazing what those alt processes
do to even most mundane sceneries - they have
the power to turn them into something
sophisticated and extraordinary
