Triptych : Mt. Whitney

Triptych: an image made up of three sections. It was a common format for Christian altarpieces.

This triptych is of Mt. Whitney over approximately a 20 minute time span. From the top down, pre-dawn (only an indirect influence from the sun), dawn (the first direct influence of the sun), and post-dawn (the sun's light begins its transition toward white).

Mt. Whitney Moonset

I am particularly fond of moonsets at sunrise and, in particular, of moonsets over Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States (the Lower 48). For a brief period of time, the light from the moon does not dominate the scene and its details can be captured in a single exposure.

The Eastern Sierras offer a multitude of imaging opportunities. Here I have captured the moon shortly after sunrise from the area known as the Buttermilks near Bishop, CA.
