"One more reason to own a mac." It's actually kind of insulting that I'm
using the same notebook that Steve Ballmer
uses. Hardly a reason to buy a Mac, you know.
However, it turns out that he wasn't the
one using it. It was being used by the
organisers for the presentations, and
Ballmer's happened to be one of them.
Still, it's a rare sight for sure. :)

Consider that:
- MS invested heavily in Apple in the
earlier days
- MS Office for Mac is a rather large
earner for MS
- You don't choose the machine that you use
for presentations like these

- M$ invested (not much) in Apple stock
options only when their problems with the
justice required them to do so, to calm the
accusations of monopoly and it was not in the
earlier days, but a few years ago.
- They quite quickly sold their shares,
when it calmed down, they don't own any Apple
stocks anymore.
- M$ Office is, indeed, a good earner for
them, but Apple needs it more than M$ needs
Apple.
- Presentations can and will be made with
the presentator's machine, at his request. He
just needs to ask. Besides, if monkey boy
asks something, he gets it.
Well, as far as I know, at this
presentation, monkey boy is known to have
spotted two Mac users in the audience and
yelled "shoot them!".
- It may have run PowerPoint nonetheless.
- Lastly, maybe this Mac was running
windoze and PowerPoint.
Oh well…
This is too good an image to spoil it.
Let's dream and imagine ballmer was using
Keynote! ;o)

Hold it, hold it.
I have worked on a presentation given by a
Microsoft exec, and any laptops on stage are
superfluous.
The presentation is run on two (for
redundancy) PCs backstage. There is a Stage
Manager who tells these PC operatives when to
advance the slides. Ballmer (or whoever) has
a clicker, but this only goes to the Stage
Manager. In front of the stage, facing the
presenter, and covered with black cloth so
that you don't notice them, are large TV
monitors with the slide on some and notes on
another.
My guess is the Apple laptop was owned by
one of the stage crew.

I was at a conference recently and
Microsoft were there showing off Silverlight
on MacBook Pros.
Fact is, they're awesome machines for
