The Air Smells Like a Football Game

My teenage years were spent in a parsonage, here at 729 Memorial Avenue. We had the biggest yard in the neighborhood . There was almost always a pick-up football or wiffle ball game going on. Next to our yard was a tree that I loved to climb, then a basketball court, and finally, my father's church.

On the way from school, we used to thow snowballs at trucks that rumbled down this street. The kids who had this mile-long commute often got into trouble on the way home. For example, the truckers would sometimes stop and pretend to chase us.

My childhood home on Long Island once upon time belonged to the church, and we too had the hugest backyard known to man!
