Our Lady holds her hands open, signalling her acceptance of the divine plan that she should be the mother of our Lord. In this way, she is truly the "handmaid of the Lord" and her response to God's goodness is something for us to emulate.

Today, 8 May, the Dominicans celebrate her special protection over the Order of Preachers.
