California Berthella

Photographing in tidepools presents enormous challenges. The lowest tides occur only a few days each month, and then for only a few hours. The subjects usually must be shot in seawater. The photograper has to cope with turbidity, wind ripples, fog, mist, harsh reflections, slippery footing, poor illumination and a ton of other technical problems. The reward for confronting these difficulties is the chance to photograph astonishing creatures that few people ever see.
