Are people having a cow about this?
I tend to avoid the support forums because of all of the paranoia and resistance to change from the most avid posters.
Don't people have more important things to get upset about?

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just received an invite to a No Video Group! I thought, HUH? If you don't want to see videos, then just don't look at them. I don't get why it's a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right on, brother.
This reminds me of 6 months, maybe a year ago when there was a big deal about non-photos (drawings, sketches, etc.) on Flickr but as I recall that was the other way around, Flickr saying they wanted this strictly a photo site.
LarryB - In these troubled times I think it is easier for people to get pissed off at something as benign as this instead of dealing with real social issues.
Irayholly - What do the post to that group? White noise videos?

only problem is, you don't necessarily know it's a video if you click on the thumbnail.

It's not so much the video itself that's the issue a lot of people are having with, it's a number of things. It's how it was sprung on us without warning pretty much. It's how all groups were defaulted to accept Video AND Photos. It's how every account was set to AUTOPLAY videos.
It's also about the fact that people joined Flickr because it was a photography site. When I signed up for the PRO account, I assumed part of my subscription fee would be going to maintaining the system and developing new features for the photographers - not developing and adding video.
Yeah everyone is entitled to opinion, it was just poorly done and implemented in my opinion... there's still things that can be fixed and/or enhanced on the photo side of Flickr.

You know the problem with that is that Flickr has been established for PHOTO sharing! Not to be flickrtube.....
Each and every Flickr member should stand on the "saying NO side" for photography's sake..... Who ever is not our side, is not a truly dedicated photographer! GO TO YOUTUBE VIDEO HEADZ!!!!!

I am very happy about the concept of using this page as a forum of debate on this subject and was committed to not deleting any comments but I had to delete a comment by Ariel Quiroz. not because he disagreed with me. But because he chose to express his disagreement by posting an enormous picture on this page.
But for Mr. Quioz' benefit I will state that he did not agree with my position.

I'm willing to bet that most of the ones trying to censure videos are the same people that complained about the photo censure in Germany and the far east last year, when that was each government's decision and not Flickr's....
Make up your mind people, for or against censure?
Personnally I'm against it, IN ALL FORMS.
Like the graphic at the top says: you don't like videos? Don't put any up and don't watch them !
But LEAVE ME THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE WHAT I WANT TO UPLOAD TO MY STREAM AND WHAT I WANT TO WATCH !
[Slowly gets off his soapbox]

BTW, it wasn't without warning, as I've been reading about this for about 5-6 months....

I spend my time working to create art with a single frame... and I came here to hang out with like-minded individuals. If you like video, go to YouTube.
In case you hadn't noticed, you have the right to do that.

I am not a member of You-tube, and I don't really know how it works. I am a member of Flickr and this is where I enjoy social networking with others in a global setting ... I see no problem with video content on flickr, and am absolutely amazed at the level of opposition! I am with you, James ... bring on the video ...

I want to thank you all. Both those who support my position and those who oppose it. I love art in it's broadest context.
and I find streams of conscious debate through imagery and art unto itself.
Look what we have created here!

I'd like to point out how many of the anti-video posts are drawings or other non-photographical items. The exact items that everyone got so up in arms about last time.
So the next time Flickr adds a new feature, will the protests be videos?

A lot of the early complaints I read about video was that we were going to be inundated with lame videos pleading clemency for Britney Spears or some such. Apparently they have those over at YouTube.
Taking a look at the level of argument and the artistic sense that went into some of the "no video" pictures showing up on flickr, I'm not sure the pro-Britney videos would be that much of a step down from what we've already got here.

Since when has Flickr been clean, pure and safe? I have seen things on Flickr that have made me want to vomit! How will video make it any worse! If you don't want to look, don't look!
If you don't like it, don't play, but don't discount it before it has had a chance ...
