you shared an awful lot for someone who wont let people get close, for someone who claims to be so un trusting you've made yourself incredibly vulnerable. perhaps you should consider meditating on that?
the photos, breathtaking
the words, you sound a lot like my just a few short years ago.

I got tears running down my cheeks here.
I think there are more people similar to you than you think. Sure there are those friendly all the time people who don't know when to stop and smother you until you run for the hills and avoid them like the plague. Or there are people like us who come out of our shells and show a little bit of love now and then to our fellow man and then go back and take care of ourselves before venturing out to do it again.
I loved your butterfly experience.

You may already know this, but just in case you didn't, I was reminded of how the American Indians revered nature placed great meaning and emphasis on an experience like you had with the butterfly. I remember the butterfly being very important and found this for you:
The butterfly is great admired among American Indians and is a bringer of joy and peace. Cultures all over earth revere its delicate and colorful beauty. Most butterflies live very short lives, only a week or two, except for the Angle Wing and Monarch live about six months. They experience stages of development from egg in the cocoon to caterpillar to adult butterfly.
BUTTERFLY MEDICINE
The short life span and beauty of the butterfly is symbolic of early spiritual growth. Lessons of life will be shown during sometimes difficult formative years and come to light as the butterfly spirit begins to fly. They hold the gift of transformation and soul evolution.
The butterfly is reminiscent of freedom and creativity.
Butterflies have a pair of large compound oval eyes made up of thousands of individual lenses. They can see a single image clearly and are able to perceive ultraviolet wavelengths of light. This suggests clairvoyant abilities for those that hold this totem.
The antennae of the butterfly has small knobs on each end which is said to play a role in orientation. When one antennae is missing the butterfly will fly in circles unable to find its way. Those with this medicine need to stay consciously connected to spirit at all times in order to arrive at their desired destination.
Butterflies are not very organized, often return to the same flower many times before they realize it, and cannot remember relatives. This trait shows us to be better prepared for life's challenges and relationships.
The butterfly represents the process of transformation and shape shifting. When butterfly shows up, make note of the most important issues confronting you at the moment. What state of change are you at in regard to them?
Butterflies remind us not to take life so seriously. They feed on flowers that they help pollinate, thereby further spreading beauty. They represent the element of air, quickly changing and ever moving, so gracefully. Butterflies are messengers of the moment. They come in a variety of colors. To understand the message that the butterfly holds for you a study of its colors can be helpful.
Whenever an eco system is damaged, butterfly is usually the first to leave. They are especially sensitive to the harmony of earth. If butterfly comes to you in a hurt, trapped or ill way, you are being asked to stop disturbing the natural design of life and to flow with events in a more gentle, natural way.

take care sweet Mel.

Wow...
I am so happy for you that the butterfly came along. If nothing else, atleast to remind you that there is still beauty in the world...beauty that comes in small packages and lifts our spirits is crazy big ways.
I'm sorry that you were feeling down, I can promise you that I'll never do anything to hurt you...you've been nothing but wonderful to me!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called * Free N A T U R E *, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.
Hey Mel, thank you for the most amazing butterfly photos ever. The colours and details are so striking. Breathtaking really!
Your honesty always inspires me and touches my heart. I am so sorry that you are in pain now.
Yes, I do believe that the best artists in world have experienced extreme highs and lows in life. They live by their emotions and the heart always leads them on limitless adventures - some beautiful ones and other times you wonder WTF??!
Still you're here, we're here, and all of us are enjoying this crazy world together.
I learnt a long time ago that if you can give yourself unconditional love then you won't crave it from anywhere else.
And I'm not going anywhere if you need a shoulder to lean or cry on.
XOXO

awesome, beautiful story, and awesome beautiful butterfly. I've felt that way too......when saddened or having a hard time, I go out with nature and sure enough something like that happens. I had a cat once who was very intuitive and knew when I was down and would come to me at the right moment and cheer me up. I DO believe your mom was communicating to you, and it's just such an awesome moment for you to capture and to share with everyone. Thank you.......

.....well...now that im done crying...you put alot of stuff out there that i would only love to try to express. I too understand alot of what you are saying sister - that is why we connected. one ole hippie chick to another.
flickr has been such a great outlet for me and i really don't think i would have met special souls like you mel, if we didn't open up and allow ourselves to be really seen. you do that and touch so many people because of that. - don't change..keep on keeping on.
i do that that butterfly totally represented your mom...Well as i;ve said before, YOU ROCK WOMAN and you have touched my soul and and so glad we have connected. I hope you are in a good space right now.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful capture and your thoughts as well. Every artistic endeavor is an act of self revelation and so in some small way we purge the darkness with our creativity. I'm glad I found your stream. I must tell you that your words strike me with great force and many of those thoughts are similar to things I have told myself. I hope you find a way that leads to acceptance combined with love and companionship. It sounds like you have a lot to offer as a person of great sensitivity and depth.

this amazing shot caught my eye as a thumbnail.
sorry to hear your story + to think that you feel so bad.
i don't think you're as "fucked up" as you think ... sounds pretty normal to me ... whatever the heck normal is ... oh the pressure of society!
nature, the outdoors + animals are fantastic - your photos are fantastic! believe in yourself - how can you not when you take photos like these + this fabulous butterfly finds you in a time of need. what about getting a dog buddy (sorry Fantom)? a dog will know the "real" you + love you unconditionally for it.

I think the butterfly was a sign for sure. I don't really believe in a lot of things some people do, but every now and again something like this happens that is so out of the ordinary that I don't think it's just a coincidence. I think it was a reminder and one of life's lessons.
I have went through similar times to yours in that I tire of getting hurt. I used to put up the protective barrier etc and still do at times. I think a lot of it comes with growing and maturing and learning that life will always throw dirt in your face, but you just have to keep right on going. I always try to keep things in perspective. I know there are certain things I absolutely could not handle in my life, like something happening to my son or something. That makes all the little stuff seem little if I remember the big stuff. I think you should re-read your words. You explained yourself quite well and I think you have more insight into yourself than you may realize. Use that insight to change and mold yourself into the happy person you are longing to be. You can wallow in these things for awhile about yourself (not referring to your Mom, but to the other parts) and then you can decide that you aren't going to let others affect you this way. It's your life honey, YOU have to make YOU happy regardless of others. Once you get the hang of that, you will smile the butterfly inspired smile and feel the happiness inside just by knowing that it's okay to be exactly who you are. :) Okay, enough philosophy from me! But if you ever need to talk, just email me. I'm a 32 y/o wife/mother who has went through a lot of soul searching the last few years and am finally figuring out who I am.

You made me cry and think of my Mother...she was the same way, no matter what, she was there. I know she is still with me in my heart and my memories and you reminded me of that. I just want to say thank you so much for sharing with me and everyone that maybe needed to read what you wrote above. Life has been sucking BIG-TIME lately for us and others we know and you just made it easier to think that perhaps things can and will get better. =0}} Hugs!

A beautiful moment - hope you are feeling better today - found you via Gary and his dedication for you today :)
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul.
And sings the tune
Without the words,
and never stops at all.
