This is Snowy, shes the youngest
Polly doesnt lay every day...the other two do
Having fresh eggs every day is brilliant, if you are considering getting hens, then get them!
Confirmed!!.. got hens and fresh eggs are so different from shop eggs.. If you got space, do it!
Snowy has a floppy comb, kinda cute!

They're lovely! I'd like some too. Do you let
them out often? Or are they usually in their
house?

Wow, you are sooo multifaceted, Sos!
Would love to keep hens, but we *really*
don't have the space. And we'd probably have
a rough time looking after them, too - always
too busy to mow the lawn!
Lucky hens having you for a Mum, anyways :-)

Oww.. What poor hen squeezed that one out her
vent??... I suppose you had to look for the
one that walked a bit funny for a week??...

Thanks people, harry 'multifaceted' I like
it! You really dont need much space, my run
is an eglu see www.omlet.com
@chris...the day I got that whoppa, I
thought exactly the same, and when I found it
I let them out in the garden and they (as
usual) ran up to the patio doors, and I threw
a grape (their absolute favourite treat) the
length of the garden, expecting to see one
hen not run for it, then Id know who laid the
egg...but they all ran, as usual, so there
was no telling. Each hen has their own
looking egg, and I suspect it was Tallulah
that laid the whoppa.
@Magstulz, thanks
@ Goose eeeek not for me...Im vegetarian
and have been for 24 years!
@Drewbic..ha ha ha of course, tags duly
added :)
@Mister Rad, yep they are part of the
family, its 9am and I can hear someone
clucking outside, it sounds like another has
been laid! so Drewbic, breakfast is in 20
minutes, can you make it??

You know sosij, I have been umming and ahing
about an Eglu for a while now. But having a
fox den at the bottom of the garden within
sight of the proposed chicken run area has
put a bit of a blight on things! Which model
did you get and have you bought the extended
run at all?

Hi
I just have the regular run, it is fox
proof, but I suppose having foxes actually
living nearby will mean you could never let
them out, in the day time even. We have no
foxes around here, occasionally they spend
the night in the garden, or I forget to shut
their door when theyve taken themselves to
bed. If you got the new extended run, though,
you could do it, but then when cleaning out
the run, etc, they wouldnt be safe.
The Eglu is a brilliant design, top notch in
my eyes, and things like red-mite which can
hide in all the wood grain of a traditional
chicken house/run are infrequent and so easy
to clean.

Mister Fox ranges wide, and has no respect
for animal rights.
Stay safe, girls.

I dream of a small-holding with chickens, a
donkey, some pigs, lots of fruit and veg, and
an orchard. One day.
