mauja actually had a bit of a rough time while we were in maine. in addition to getting skunk'd a few days after his first day at camp we discovered and removed a largish tick from his ear.

since we've been back he's been lethargic and not eating, which could be from the effects of the midwestern heat but when combined with the fact that he's developed a progressively worsening limp over the week, it's hard to not jump to the conclusion that he may be showing early signs of lyme disease.

so, we went to the vet and after poking and prodding she seemed to rule out lyme's ( we knew it was probably improbable, but it's better to be safe than sorry ), but didn't really come to any definitive answers as to what it might be causing the limp although it's easy to determine that it has something to do with his front right paw.

one very small part of pad is slightly red and raised, but he hasn't been licking it and it didn't look too painful. and the vet thought she might feel the beginnings of an interdigital cyst. so she prescribed him some relatively expensive anti-inflammatory ( $20 a week! ) pills and told us to come back in a week.

hopefully he gets better because there's nothing more pathetic looking than a hot malamute with a severe limp.

	TILT says: Poor Mauja. I really hope he is feeling himself again really soon. Nells has been swimming a lot and we keep watching for hot spots and ear infections. Maybe he just stepped on a thorn or something as that can be quite irritating and cause swelling. Anyway..sounds like the vet and you have it under control.. My sister's manfriend got nibbled by a tick recently. He turned sick sick sick (and v. quick quick quick). Doc diagnosed Lyme disease after a fast blood test. Yikes.
