I love the blurred background - it just adds
to the look of speed, as if he's flying.

Nice shot! I love the sense of speed that you
get with this photo, and Oscar is obviously
having a good time!

The sense of speed is, as everyone says,
great. It must've taken some doing getting
that.

plus: Gives a very good impression of movement and
speed_Very nice shot.__
minus: _Perhaps the dog could be a little bit moved
out of the center__

plus: A well-captured pet photograph, emphasising
the animals character, playfulness, etc. Very
good.
minus: I would have preferred to see the photograph
with increased constrast / saturation.

plus: all 4 paws in the air -- a classic animal
motion shot!
minus: you can't really do anything about this now,
but it would have been more dramatic to shoot
from the ground -- at dog level.

I'll start with the positives: Your dog is
super cute, obviously. He also looks like it
can run his little tail off.
The focus really isn't very good, because
he was running really fast and your shutter
was too slow. I would guess your shutter
speed should have been around 1/500sec.
Having Oscar smack in the middle of the
shot is a little bring.
So, I guess my biggest concerns are the
focus and composition. It's a great snapshot
and it looks okay in a small size. If you
want to get a shot to get a larger sized
print of, I would recommend reshooting it
with a faster shutter speed (or tell Oscar to
slow down a bit!!).

I'd rate it as a very nice shot. Of course
Oscar is the hero and he is a pretty hansome
dog. That he could be caught with all the
four legs in the air is creditable. The
motion blur of the background is nice too.

As the companion of a Westie, I love this
image. It really shows how crazy and wild
they can be.
I think this image also shows a lot of
motion, so it's okay for me that it's out of
focus.
Also, I love the expression on his little
face and the way you caught him mid-air.

The motion blur of the background is nice,
but this kind of shots can work well only
when the subject is very sharply in focus.
Which is not the case here. Moreover, the
colors are a bit washed out and the
composition is too centered for my liking.

Looks like a fun day and a fun dog. You may
have to center the subject to do a panning
shot like this, but it looks like you've
cropped it and decided to leave him in the
center anyway. The only part that is
particularly sharp seems to be the harness,
which is too bad, but could be acceptable if
the color wasn't so bland.

I agree with Rimbaudian.
1/160 is enough to get a decent panning but
with animals you take the risk of up/down
movement of the head resulting in blurrer
areas that should be sharp.
Too centered too.

Panning is not really an easy job, and this
shot is not a failure for sure. I like the
way the background is blurred. Dog's motion
is well captured. But I would have liked to
see something more, a little bit zoomed out
picture. Nonetheless, a good one.

like the movement here, and the subject is
great
would prefer if he wasn't so central in the
frame, more space to the right and less to
the left would give him space to run into and
take out the distracting brighter corner top
left

wonderful capture! as for the difficult
conditions it's really good! the dog is a
cutie :-)
I'd crop out the left side a little bit and
move the doggie out the center and added a
bit of contrast :)

Well, you can tell me if it wass luck or
skill that enabled you to capture this - I'll
believe either as I know how hard this would
be. It's certainly something that as an
opportunisticshot would require the reactions
of a cat...well, you know what I mean.
Anyway, kudos for the capture and the great
feeling of movement in the shot. It is a
little bland colour-wise though and the
motion blur which adds the feeling of speed,
adds to the faded feel. The facial
expression is great - typical Westie.
Perhaps a zoom out would have helped - centre
of the frame doesn't really help you here.

If you let your photo software do an
automatic contrast enhancement and crop away
most of the top and the left side you will
get a much better photo without the washed
out colors.
