Verrucaria maura (Tar lichen). Foreshore north of the mouth of the River Tyne, about 3 miles west of Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland. This lichen is the main species comprising the black band found at upper tidal levels, on hard rocks around the coastline of the Britsh Isles.
