I'm sure there must be a group covering
photos taken between 3 and 5 a.m.
If so, I may be interested...

Truly amazing perspective and vanishing
point, I really like the "waking
up" colours. Great to see that it was
restored and not demolished and replaced.
Grand job.
I believe this was one of the bridges in the
"Five Bridges Suite" by the early
British progressive band "The Nice"
back in the 60s.

Thank you all!
Melanie, it was early morning - sun had just come
up, hence the light was in our favour.
Flickrway, well, I thought whether to put it into the
'nighthawks' pool, but given the sun had
already gone up...
philantropic Thank you! The Sigma 10-20 worked its
magic...
Max, cheers! We like a nice straight line.
Keroleen, Sigma 10-20mm... the 'party lens'!
Jon thanks! Normally there's a bit of traffic on
it, but hospital expedition demanded an early
start, so I swung by the bridge for a few
touristy shots.
mpaulda Thank you!
Ronniecheers! You should. Buses and taxis allowed
southbound single file, so you wan to make
the visit very early or very late.
Jonesy thank you! The bridge is a real landmark.
xollob58, it could well be! There are quite a few
bridges over the Tyne, and from one vantage
point you get a cracking shot of about five
or six of them all stacked up... must go try
that one sometime.

Back in the '60s/'70s there were only five
bridges: the "New" Tyne Bridge, the
High Level, the King Edward, the Swing
Bridge, and the (old) Redheugh Bridge. Hence
the Nice album (which I recall they always
had a copy of in Gateshead Library, along
with Nicely Out Of Tune by Lindisfarne), and
also the Five Bridges Hotel (now known as the
Swallow Hotel Gateshead). I think they
changed the name when the Metro bridge was
built in the late 1970s.

Really strong image - as says - the symmetry seems to give it
something extra, accentuating the bold shapes
- nice work

I've done the bridges at dawn a few times but
never ventured up to the High Level bridge.
This is great. Love the central perspective.
