Awesome. I love the lines of communication
implied. The generational dynamics are
perfect.

What's the revision?
Posted 42 months ago.

|

The revision has to do with some very bad
cloneing on the lower right side, where the
molding is. I had also added a border, which
I since removed.

I think this is the 4th time I've come back
to this photograph. Every expression is
perfect and perfectly priceless, but it's the
look of bemused satisfaction on the man's
face that really gives the photo its power.
Just a very, very fine piece of work.

The composition is perfect, too... the
Grandpa is leaning back, with the same sort
of happy look as the Dad. Grandma and baby
are both a little distressed. It's incredibly
good.
Well done.

Always a shame to arrive "late" to
a photo like this. I must add it´s the most
unique and refreshing family portrait I´ve
seen on Flickr!
I think it´s mostly due to the baby´s
expression, father holding, grandma grabbing,
and grandpa more removed on that vintage
sofa.. a whole juxtaposition that´s appealing
to the eye...
magical!

Thanks to Flickr going for a massage and me
having to go and sit in the waiting room (aka
the Flickr blog) I stumbled over this picture
- it's just so great - my youngest daughter
(she's 10) just passed and went all aaaw and
ooh so the eldest came running too (she's 12)
and they both marvelled over this photo -
they liked the expression of the baby, the
grandma trying to sooth it, the dad just
looking proud and tired and grandpa looking
rather fondly at his son (they even have a bit the same smile!).
These are the kind of family pics to
cherish and bring up time and time again -
again: great stuff!

I was wondering how many people would see
this picture whilst flickr was having its
emergency spa day. ... but I never expected
to get a comment as nice as yours, Reinhilde
... Thank you for passing along yours and
your kids' reactions. It made my day.
To clarify, the people in the picture,
though, are the great grandparents, grandson
and great granddaughter.
I would have been nice to get all four
generations (grandma) in one shot, but there
probably wouldn't have been any room on the
couch anyway.

I'm very jealous of this photo (that's a
complement)! With-in seconds we know exactly
what's going on. I think what really makes
this photo so special is that it's not just
their facial expressions doing the work here.
Everything is working together to tell a
story. Heck, they're even dressed as
characters:
The Grandparents in crisp pleated slacks
and light knit sweaters. Dad in an everyday
t-shirt and slightly frazzled hair and his
huge arms showing. And in those big arms is
Baby in a frilly dress and pacifier doing
what she knows to do.
The placement of the subjects is great too.
The photographer is sitting close to the
subjects with a wider lens. This is a
wonderful effect as we can see distance
between the subjects (young to old, front to
back). Grandma reaching across the
generations really makes a statement. Dad and
Baby are on the floor, where the Grandparents
are seated in a lovely throne above. All
these details come together for a fantasic
photograph. Well done!!

this is a great photo, absolutely great. if
the baby hadn't been crying and grandma
hadn't been trying to soothe her, and daddy
looking slightly oh-well tried then it
wouldn't have been the same great photo.
maybe in a few years there'll be another kid,
or maybe two kids, running around that couch,
now that would be perfect. non staged photos
are the best, or staged photos that turn
slightly chaotic... awesome!
