When you shoot with a flash full power 4" from your subject at f54 the background tends to come out really dark. ;-) The small aperture is the only way to get any DOF when the subject is 3" from the lens. Actually, when I took this I kept thinking I was getting some wierd highlight on his eye because this egg or whatever was so small that I couldn't see it until I looked at it on my computer later.
