In politics you re making a realistic

McCain, Clinton or Obama. If I was a US
citizen I would chose Obama, even though I am

Nice artwork but...
It seems like folks get caught up in some
starry-eyed dream...and completely overlook
the fact that Mr. Obama is a Afro-centric
Socialist.
Doesn't anybody care enough to disturb
their naive feel-good dreaming to take a look
at the facts?
Yikes, folks! C'mon. Stop the touchy,
feely, feel-good stuff. This is important.

Instead of arguing about whether than is
true, assume for a moment that you are right.
How bad would that be? Really.
How a President leads in a bureaucracy is a
complex matter.
Let's say that your concern with a
"Socialist" is that they would
waste a lot of money and bloat the government
(I'm guessing that you are less concerned
about the benefits of social programs, but
dismayed at the costs). Well, A cynical
Libertarian should vote for such a Socialist.
Why? I looked back at the OMB data for all
U.S. Presidents since they started collecting
stats. With very few exceptions, government
spending (Federal, State and Local) as a percent of GDP grew during the
Republican Presidencies and shrank during the
Democratic Presidencies. And then W set a
new record.
A lot of people voted for W, and I bet few
of them predicted how much he would bloat the
government spend.
This "impact opposite of
rhetoric" correlation is not explained
by delay effects (one President putting in
policies that have a time-lag effect on the
government bloat) because the correlation
holds over 4, 8, 12 and 16 year stretches of
Democratic and Republican Presidencies.
So where does that leave us? Perhaps the
political orientation is less important, and
perhaps what the country needs now, more than
ever, is symbolic leadership that will garner
respect on the world stage.

"...symbolic leadership that will garner

(the only reason given to choose Obama)
YIKES! This is the feel-good factor again.
I can't believe that anyone would choose the
leader of the most powerful (by far) country
on this planet based ONLY on his ability to
convince others to "like" us.
...unbelievable.
Frankly I couldn't give a hoot less what
Rhodesia, France, Argentina,Cuba
Denmark,...(just fill in the blank) think
about us.
They should be more concerned about what
the US thinks of them.

*yawn...
Maybe a history lesson is in order (based
solely on the experience argument):
Abe Lincoln is often regarded as the
greatest president of our time (8 years in IL
legislature / 1 year in the US House) then
for over a decade he did private practice law
practice before becoming president...
J.Q Adams has 13 years of experience and
his term was mediocre to average at best.
Ike had 11 years of experience and was a
great president. "As President, he
oversaw the cease-fire of the Korean War,
kept up the pressure on the Soviet Union
during the Cold War, made nuclear weapons a
higher defense priority, launched the Space
Race, enlarged the Social Security program,
and began the Interstate Highway
System." I mean seriously, Ike was the
man.
Grant? As in Ulysses S. Grant? Maybe that
was a typo on your part. Highly regarded as
one of the worst presidents. 7 years of
experience prior.
Franklin or Thoedore? You choose. 6 years
and 4 years respectively. Both great
presidents with very little experience...Fact
Obama has more experience than Franklin and
Teddy.
Herbert Hoover? 7 years experience and
considered in the lower percentile of bad
presidents. Seriously, bad choice...but not
as bad as your Grant example..yikes.
Ronald Reagan was ho-hum. He did a lot of
things that got us into where we are today.
His presidency is lauded by conservatives
because it made the rich richer. IF you had
- have - money (and lots of it), thank
Reagan...if not...hate him. Anyway,
experience 8 years as governor of
California...beyond that...no experience in
governement affairs. Although he was a great
actor.
And your last "failed"
jab...Taft. William H. Taft
had....cough....7 years of experience before
becoming president. 2 as a governor and 4 as
secretary of war. I wouldn't say a great
presidency either...average at best.
So, that being said, of your list who would
you suspect had the best presidencies?
Based on your flawed "experience"
example, James Buchanan should have. He had
a solid 20 years in congress and a little
over a decade in other international affairs
but is highly regarded as one of the worst president we've had.
Nope, in your list we can thank the
Roosevelts' for their strength of character,
eloquence and bringing about change to
America. Both of which had less experience than Barack. Eisenhower had
immense experience and did wonders for this
country as well. That charisma and character
is found in Barack Obama.
It would do you a great good to read more
about our presidents and their deeds - with
relation to experience - prior to making an
ill-informed opinion of a candidate.

Nice analysis iammeltron.
Even though I don't agree with you about
Ronald Reagan. He was a good president. Not
only for the rich.
Anyway.
Happy weekend to everyone, liberals,
conservatives and all the rest.

Thanks tsevis!
Yea, see I'm not disregarding Reagan as a
president. I'm just loosely summing up his
policies. To me the economic recovery tax
was a huge benefit for business owners and
moderately wealthy to fairly wealthy
individuals. While it curtailed government
spending, it provided a shelter for those
wanting to keep more of their money. I
guarantee you anyone who had money during
Reagans term, once "reaganomics"
took hold, they were mightily happy.
Seriously, the taxing of the upper percentile
took a nose dive; it was crazy. Meanwhile
payroll taxes increased substantially.
Now, my sister and I have long believed
that the cold war was less about nukes than
it was more about ideologies. Communism vs
Capitalism. America had been considering a
more wholly inclusive ideal which meant
introducing socialist ideas intertwined with
marxist thinking. *sounds crazy, but it
could have worked* But Reagan saw a means of
driving the economy (read: fueling the rich)
and well, there you have it. Thus,
Capitalism prevailed and we have our sound
bit for the 80's: Mr. Gorbachev, tear down
this wall! *I'm very, very loosely interpreting my view here. so,
disregard for future discussions. :P

*yawn... cough... hack...
So aside from the gradeschool lesson in
history from "iammelting", I can
appreciate the conversation about ideologies
and worthy/experieced presidents and thier
tenure in office...
I still return to my prediction
Barak will not be the president of the
United States
He is showing himself to be less and less
this messianic character that you and yours
laud him for
His speeches, though moving and powerful,
are hollow and vacant of ideas or proposals
Change for change's sake is a wonderful
axiom, but a pathetic position...
And with our fellow countrymen having a
collective attention span of .5 seconds, he
"feels good", like a walk through a
hallmark store

what chops do you want to bring to bear to
support Obama? I really liked to listen to
the guy in the beginning, and I have to say,
his dodging bullets about his church, the
less than savory business dealing in securing
the land to build his house on, and his
pandering campaign history in Chicago and
fight to appear more "geniune" to
black voters all leads back to what i said
before..
a shrewd politician, as far as political
nonsense is concerned, but the same empty
suit, pandering jackass as the rest of the
lot.

internet tough guy award! Yay!
All arguments have ceased. Again, read up
on presidents, come to the table with valid
"points" and this time, supporting
documentation. Thankfully, Americans voted
wise with several of the presidents I've
listed. With your rational, Nixon was the
best president this country ever had! Go
team go!
I heart you.

heres the thing... you have made a quality

have not challenged any of my simple attacks
on Barak and his empty, insincere rhetoric.
He is, sadly, a media manufactured candidate,
with little value to voters other than he is
not Bush and can help alleviate some
misplaced white guilt.

American Patriotism is nothing more than a
nostalgic dream of a country which no longer
exist. There is such a fast difference in the
level and kind of freedoms we once had.
Family culture in America in no way resembles
what it once was. Politicians from the Right
and Left read from the same script like
professional actors fooling people into
thinking they are actually making some kind
of choice when they vote. Like the movie
MATRIX, you can taste the steak, even if it
does not exist. But all dreams die. A new
kind of values is coming to this country. It
is a new type of horror which will be
altogether very real. It makes no difference
who you elect as president. I refuse to vote
and be a part of this lie any longer. I was
once an election offiicial!!! I went to July
4th parades. I hung out the flag. I hate this
country that exist today. I pray to find a
country which will let me move to and work
there. Many countries are closing doors
because other Americans see it too.

The world can be a scary frightening place,
but we don't have to live our lives in that
manner. Like tsevis said, there are ways in
which you...all of us...can find the positive
and move forward. There will be, and are,
things many of us may not personally
subscribe to or believe in. Those
differences do not equate to divisions. You
sound convinced that the sky is falling and
nothing anyone can say or do will change your
mind, but I hope you do...
