Shipibo Textile

Shipibo Textile

The Shipibo are one of the largest groups of indigenous peoples in the Peruvian
Amazon. They live in close harmony with their surroundings and are known for their vast plant medicine knowledge. They are highly regarded as being masters of ayahuasca, the hallucinogenic decoction prepared principally from the Banisteriopsis vine but containing admixures of up to hundreds of other plants.
The designs of this textile represent an ongoing dialogue or communion with the spiritual world and powers of the rainforest as transmitted through the ritual use of ayahuasca.

Arbutus bark

Arbutus bark

The peeling bark and color palette are very reminiscent of Eucalyptus deglupta.
